Loot & compatibility

Royal rewards, Lootr and items from other mods.

Moria’s chests contain supplies, equipment and treasure. Some installed mods add bonus items. You can play with the normal loot without installing any of them.

King's reward chest and Lootr

Defeat the Fallen King to open the treasury behind his throne. His reward chest appears in the centre of the room, alongside three other chests. Collect his equipment and materials there.

With Lootr installed, each player gets their own royal reward. Otherwise, everyone shares the same chest. Lootr’s own refresh settings still apply.

Chests do not normally refill. Server administrators can reset a throne encounter, which restores the king and clears the treasury chests for a new fight.

Rewards from other mods

Bonus items can come from Artifacts, Relics, Ars Nouveau, Apotheosis, Create, Immersive Engineering, Occultism, Forbidden & Arcanus, Supplementaries and Farmer’s Delight. Available items depend on your Minecraft version and the mods you have installed.

Mines and forges can offer extra metals. Archives can contain magical items, while royal chests draw from rarer rewards. See bonus chances or browse the full loot lists.

Apotheosis contributes selected materials and consumables. Its randomly generated gems and equipment are excluded.

Customizing a modpack

Server owners can add or replace bonus items with a datapack. Match the datapack format to your Minecraft version, then run /reload after making changes. Try a chest that has not been opened yet; opened chests will not refill.

Add or replace bonus items

Six item groups control the bonuses:

Group Tag
Materials moria:loot/materials
Workshop moria:loot/workshop
Arcane moria:loot/arcane
Exploration moria:loot/exploration
Combat moria:loot/combat
Royal moria:loot/royal

For example, create data/moria/tags/item/loot/royal.json in your datapack:

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    { "id": "my_mod:royal_amulet", "required": false },
    { "id": "#my_mod:rare_rewards", "required": false }
  ]
}

replace: false adds to the group; replace: true replaces it. To disable that group’s bonuses, use {"replace": true, "values": []}. Missing optional items are ignored, and the normal chest loot remains available.

Forge 1.20.1 uses tags/items/ instead of tags/item/.

Materials also use the c:ingots/<metal> and forge:ingots/<metal> tags for tin, silver, lead, nickel, zinc and aluminium. Archives use c:gems/source. An item listed more than once has the same chance as an item listed once.

Change chances or royal rewards

To adjust bonuses, replace data/moria/loot_table/compat/chests/<structure>.json or data/moria/loot_table/compat/entities/fallen_king.json in your datapack. Forge 1.20.1 uses loot_tables/ instead of loot_table/.

A table containing {"pools": []} disables that table’s bonuses.

To change the king’s full reward, replace moria:chests/fallen_king. Its bonus items come from moria:compat/entities/fallen_king. Changing only the king’s entity loot table will not change his treasury chest.
