Eight underground biomes
Moria’s caverns contain giant pillars, lakes and chasms. Illuminated avenues cross them on arched bridges before tunnelling into rock. Small openings in the slopes lead to narrower, darker passages.
| Biome | What to discover |
|---|---|
| Deep Halls | Vast caverns, natural columns and chasms |
| Underground Lake | Large expanses of water lit by submerged lights |
| Sunken Forges | Lava rivers and foundries connected by walkways |
| Petrified Forest | Basalt trees with enormous roots and branches |
| Forgotten Gardens | Giant trees, moss and waterfalls from the cavern ceilings |
| Titans’ Graveyard | Colossal skeletons with horned skulls |
| Royal Geodes | Amethyst crystals rising from a calcite floor |
| Silent Depths | Dark rocky basins, obsidian monoliths and hanging spires |

Ores
Large iron, copper, coal and gold deposits reward mining expeditions. Follow the bands of ore visible on the ground and dig along their continuation. Diamonds are rarer; the bottoms of the great fissures are promising places to prospect.
Smaller ore pockets lie throughout the rock. See ore rates for the chances of finding each type.
Journals and remains
Look for barrels beneath lanterns near the entrances to ruins. Some contain expedition journals with coordinates to another place to explore. A journal in a mine leads towards a forge; from there, you can follow the clues to archives, cities, necropolises and throne rooms.
Along the way, you’ll come across abandoned camps, overturned ore carts, repair stations and memorial stones. Search camps and repair stations for supplies and stories from the old kingdom.
Advancements and ambience
Open Moria’s advancement tab to track your discoveries. Its optional goals include visiting the biomes, ruins and villages, crossing a watch bridge on foot and defeating the Fallen King.
Dripping water, creaking stone and distant metallic echoes accompany your journey. What you hear changes as you move through the caverns. Adjust their volume with Minecraft’s ambient sound setting.
